Gear Review: BibBoards

Personally, I can’t stand using safety pins on my race bibs. I’ve had so many instances of it ripping off and I’m also worried about putting holes in very delicate technical shirts. I ended up using a waist belt that had bib holders but the problem with that was the bib hanging too low. It ended reaching mid-thigh so I kept hitting it in my stride. BibBoards asked me to join the No Pin Revolution so I happily obliged.

What are BibBoards?

BibBoards come in a set of 4 per package. Each BibBoard is comprised of 2 pieces: the front piece with the stud that goes through the hole of your bib and the rear part that snaps to the front piece underneath the shirt. They come in a variety of designs but they can also be customized. This is great for businesses or local races and makes for practical running swag (which I always welcome). You can also upload your own design.

What do I think about BibBoards?

I managed to wear BibBoards on two races and both times they didn’t flinch. They are easy to use and didn’t damage my favourite shirts. I first tried them on my West Van Run shirt, which is made by Adidas. This is one of my favourite shirts and I HATE putting pins through it. The BibBoards’ studs didn’t wreck the fabric at all. I guess there’s enough give between the two pieces that it doesn’t create a hole.

Next, I was concerned about using it on a thicker fabric: my Helly Hansen pull over. I used it during my last 5k race and it still held up no problem. They were still easy to snap on and the bib didn’t move at all. I’m so happy to not have a dangling bib below my waist anymore. My only concern about these is that they may be easy to lose so you should have a designated box or plastic bag for these. Otherwise, you can get replacement sets on their website pretty easily.
