Review: Cold Pressed Juices at Commodity Juicery

Review: Cold Pressed Juices at Commodity Juicery

Ever since I watched the documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead (you may have seen it floating around on Netflix), I have been interested in juicing. I know I don’t get the proper servings of fruit and veggies per day so I was looking for a tasty solution that would give me all the nutrients I need. Also, I don’t have much counter space so getting a bulky juicer is not an option. I was checking my email one day and I got an opportunity to get a free tasting at Commodity Juicery (thanks Zomato). I jumped at the chance to try this new juice bar so I booked my appointment. They are located in Mount Pleasant on Fraser Street between E. 23rd and E. 24th. In here you will find vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and organic options like fresh juices, smoothies, immunity shots, and other snacks to fuel and nourish you. It’s a cute little spot where you can grab a (healthy) drink on the go or sit at the bar and enjoy a light lunch.

Commodity Juicery

Everything was fresh. I could see them prepping for the next juice in the open kitchen and it’s just piles of fresh vegetables that looked pretty amazing. Holistic Nutritionist Karolina Kluska, R.H.N. was my hostess and she brought me 4 different cold-pressed juices, a smoothie sample and a few bites. Let me tell you about each one…

02 – All Greens

Ingredients: Kale, Cucumber, Romaine, Celery, Parsley, Lime, Lemon, Ginger

Let’s start from the left… the All Greens, the healthiest one of the bunch, I’m sure and also the least sweet. This was also one of my least favourites, mainly because I don’t like eating leafy green vegetables on their own in the first place and I am really not a fan of cucumber and celery. Just a disaster waiting to happen. However, I tried it and while I was not a big fan, it was still drinkable to me. I have had other green juices that I just really can’t stomach but this I can… in small doses though 😛

06 – Purple Puppy

Ingredients: Beet, Cucumber, Cilantro, Orange, Apple

Next is one of their popular juices called Purple Puppy. This went down smoothly and the beets were sweet and delicious. Easily a juice I would be grabbing but not before my next pick…

Commodity Juicery

08 – Orange Roots

Ingredients: Carrot, Turmeric, Apple, Lemon

My favourite juice among the ones I tried! I think carrot juice blends seem to be the ones that tend to agree with me more. I liked another brand of carrot juice but I thought this one tasted better. It seemed smoother to consume, maybe it’s because of the apple. One day I wouldn’t mind trying their other carrot based juice called 07 – Morning Love, which contains yams and cinnamon! Very interesting…

10 – Sunrise

Ingredients: Grapefruit, Apple, Lemon, Mint

The last cold-pressed juice I tried had a grapefruit base. Sad to say, I really am not a grapefruit fan so I didn’t like this one bit. It did taste bright and seemed to really wake me up though. It would be a great juice to have at the breakfast table… if you like grapefruit.

Commodity Juicery

Tropical Storm Smoothie

Ingredients: Pineapple, Banana, Peach, Strawberry, Coconut Oil, Dates + Apple Juice

YUM! I love this. Nice and sweet yet healthy. I really am more of a smoothie person. What’s missing is the little umbrella in my sample cup. Next time, I’d try the Cheeky Monkey too.

Pad Thai at Commodity Juicery

Pad Thai

They also offered me a taste of their Pad Thai. I got excited, as I love traditional Pad Thai. And then they said it was vegetarian Pad Thai with zucchini noodles. I became a little skeptical but was surprised when I took a bite. If you imagine Pad Thai as a salad, here it was and it was delicious. It was also quite filling, a little goes a long way.

Almont Coconut Macaroon at Commodity Juicery

Almond Coconut Macaroon

This would be perfect for a pre-workout snack… or even during. These balls are packed with flavour and fuel. If you’re running by their juice bar, grab one for a little pick-me-up to propel you home.

Thanks for reading! Will you be checking out this local gem? Hope my photos and insights have convinced you 🙂 Terrific product, pleasant and informative staff, and lots of health benefits. What more could you ask for? My only beef with it is that it’s inconvenient for me to get to… but maybe one day a new location will pop up near me. One can only hope.
